JD Sports

What is JD?

JD, the King of Trainers, began in Bury, Greater Manchester in 1981, with one shop run by John Wardle and David Makin (hence the name JD). The shop found quick success, prompting Wardle and Makin to open a second shop in Manchester’s Arndale Centre in 1983.

Success continued, and growth came with it. In 2001, JD bought 209 shops from the historic Scottish chain Blacks Outdoor Retail. In October 2005, they bought 70 stores from AllSports. By this point, it was clear: JD was here to stay.

Over the next 15 years, JD would acquire an array of retailers like streetwear brand FLY53 in 2012; Cloggs in February 2013; Champion Sports in January 2011 (JD bought Champion for almost £20 million). Eventually, in 2011, JD would fully acquire Blacks Outdoor Retail when the company went into administration.

JD’s three biggest acquisitions were GoOutdoors, which they bought for £112 million in November 2013, FootAsylum for £90 million in March 2019 and Shoe Palace for $325 million in December 2020.

JD is an important sponsor in the sports world, having sponsored AFC Bournemouth, Charlton Athletic, Dundee United, Blackpool Football Club, Luton Town, and Oldham Athletic since August 2008.

To this day, JD are a staple of sportswear and a permanent fixture both on the high street and online. JD’s online store is the only place to view their entire catalogue in one place, and use your JD Discount Code.

What products does JD stock?

As the King of Trainers, JD stocks a wide variety of footwear to suit every taste. From flip-flops and sandals, to running shoes, skate shoes and hi-tops for those who like their casual outfits to still have a signature flair.

Shoes are undoubtedly JD’s main draw, although they have branched out significantly, and now stock a range of t-shirts, hoodies, tracksuits, and loungewear among others. JD is now your one-stop shop for training gear, with trainers, shorts, tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts and jackets all purchasable in the same order.

For lovers of a particular brand, JD has you covered there, too. Fred Perry, Levi’s, Converse, Calvin Klein, Adidas, Nike, and so many more are in stock at JD. Most brands have mens, womens and kids products, too, so you can get what you want no matter who you’re buying for.

JD’s legendary status in the sporting world is reflected in its brands. Sports from boxing, to football, to American football, basketball, running and MMA are all present in the JD catalogue. Where else can you get a Dallas Cowboys, or Chicago Bulls, or England rugby shirt with a fast delivery and a healthy discount on your order?

An outfit is rarely complete without accessories, and JD has them in spades. Hoods, snoods, watches, sunglasses, hats, everything you could possibly want to accentuate your outfit can be found at JD, so take a look and see what catches your eye the most.
